Avenues
If you’ve been in the Aves much, you’re already familiar with the vibe – a laid back love of life. Adjacent to Downtown, you’re close to everything in the city, and still enjoy the close-knit neighborhood feeling. The homes, full of character, charm and history are some Salt Lake’s most beautiful residences.
Not exactly Urban or Suburban, the Avenues is a cool combo of both. Hip coffee houses, Street Fairs, Local Day Spas, Book Stores and Art Galleries sprinkle the neighborhood with local, innovative products. There’s a warmth in this part of town that’s truly special and rare.
Community members, young and old are happy here. Proximity to the U and Westminster is enticing to professors and students. Many Professionals and graduate students choose the Avenues after living on or around campus for Undergrad, and fell in love with the comfortable Avenues. The tree-lined streets are cozy and walk-able (if a bit steep in parts) and people out for a stroll or a run are most common.
Climbing the hill on the north side of SLC, the grid system streets begin with 1st Ave. and “A” Street, just above Temple Square. Many of the homes are remodeled Victorians, but the area is diverse with homes, apartments, mansions and condos, developed over many decades, contributing various designs and options for lovers of this special, revitalized place, considered one of Salt Lake's most desirable neighborhoods.
Walk, bike, or drive to several great eateries, ranging from Tibetan food at Café Shambala to Pub fair at Avenues Proper, who offers up small batch craft beers alongside seasonal dishes. Looking to relax with ridiculously good beverages, sandwiches and smoothies? Try Café on 1st and the Ginsberg Smoothie with espresso, white chocolate, and bananas. Trust Hailey Watanabe, you’ll love it.
Jack Mormon Coffee will be your new place for a cup of Joe - pick out green beans, have them freshly roasted to your specific tastes, and ready to take home in about 30 minutes! If you’re in a hurry, Java Joe’s drive through is also excellent.
The Cathedral of the Madeleine, a truly beautiful building, built in 1909 with gothic arches and stained glass, it’s the diocese of the Roman Catholic Church in Salt Lake. It also administers the Madeleine Choir School, serving over 350 pre-K to 8th grade students.
Up for fun? The Avenues Street Fair, traditionally held in September, has become one of Utah’s premier community celebrations. Thousands of people join this beautiful neighborhood annually to enjoy the festivities. Beginning with a Children’s Parade, moving on to live music on two stages!
Outdoor recreation is right around the corner in Memory Grove Park. The perfect spot for a jog or stroll – take the dog if you like, it’s one of the best off-leash dog parks in the city. The Freedom Trail in Memory Grove has a stream on the west side of the entire trail, spend some time at the pond at its center, and with the memorials throughout, honoring Utah soldiers who’ve served in various wars throughout history.
The Kura Door Holistic Japanese Spa is one of Salt Lake’s premier spas. Experience the artistry of the Japanese approach to wellness, beauty, and rejuvenation. Be pampered with a soak in a traditional Ofuro tub, massage or facial while relaxing in a cotton kimono.
